First Communion is a big step in your child’s faith journey, which is why we would love to help your child make this step. First Communion is the first time a child receives the Body and Blood of Christ. It is, of course, important that both children and adults receive Holy Communion frequently as they continue on their Catholic journey. By receiving communion, we are united with Christ himself and it is a way to remember the sacrifices he went through so that we could be cleansed of our sins. As a parent, we would like to make sure you help your child become ready to receive this sacrament.
First Communion is normally received in Second grade when the child has reached the age of seven or so. If your child is enrolled in St. Francis School or in the Religious Education program, they will receive both instruction and direction in receiving Holy Communion. As a parent, you will receive materials so that you will be involved in the preparation for this big day in your child’s life. The Mass where your child will receive First Holy Communion is normally celebrated in the Spring, a week or two after Easter.
If your child is past Second Grade and for some reason did not receive First Holy Communion we will be most glad to help to arrange that in a way that is convenient. Please contact the parish office for assistance.
