Excerpted from The Catholicism Series by Word on Fire and Fr. Robert Barron, St. Paul tells us that we are baptized into the Body of Christ, we members of the Body and he is the head of the Body, which is the Church. There exists, then, an organic connection between all the members of the church, both living and dead. It includes the saints who have gone before us, awaiting us in heaven. It includes those in Purgatory awaiting entry to heaven and it includes we, the visible members of the Church, who live now connected to one another by bonds of faith. The Catholic Church believes that the saints in heaven are active members of the Body, they intercede for us and sometimes actively work in our lives.
Join Bishop Robert Barron, in the Catholicism video series, as he discusses the lives and influence of saints in the Mystical Body of Christ. Bishop Barron will give insights into the lives of St. Katherine Drexel, St. Theresa of Lisieux, St. Edith Stein, and St. Theresa of Calcutta. Bishop Barron is an Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles and head of the Word on Fire media apostolate.
